Pandora: Listen to the Entire New Album

    Reviews

Entertainment Weekly: “Saxophonist LeRoi Moore died last August from injuries incurred in an ATV accident, midway through the recording of their latest album. His spirit — and his sound — looms large, however, on Big Whiskey.”

Rolling Stone: “’Big Whiskey’ is a lot like a New Orleans funeral parade — mourning and zest balled into big, brawny music.”

Billboard: “Matthews’ lyrics can be of the make-love-shine variety, and there are a few meandering detours as usual, but ‘Big Whiskey’ finds the band at its most pointed and purposeful in years.”

Blog Critics: “‘Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King’ is a burst of energy and a worthy addition to the DMB canon.”

Bullz-Eye.com: “It’s perhaps their best album to date – a sweaty, loose-limbed beast of a record that vacuum seals the band’s creative spark and doesn’t lose any of its flavor.”

AntsMarching.org: “This is the best DMB album in over a decade, with the chops to hold its own against any other disc they’ve put out.”

California Chronicle: “Death can force a guy to grow. So can a good producer. ‘Big Whiskey’ is proof.”

    Spin: “A fond, funky farewell.”

The New Yorker: “What’s so enjoyable about ‘Veckatimest’ is how wide an arc it swings after ‘Two Weeks.’ The band wants to unfurl in every direction, and does. The brawniest track, ‘Fine for Now,’ starts with a gentle a-cappella vocal, the band at its must churchy, and then builds into a whorl of noise, Bear treating his ride cymbal mercilessly, and sounding more than a little like Elvin Jones.”

New York Daily News: “Every era has its heroes of harmony, from the Everly Brothers to the Beach Boys to the Bangles to the Dixie Chicks. It’s safe to say, though, no group ever entwined its voices with the special mix of invention, oddity and bliss of Grizzly Bear.”

Uncut: “‘Veckatimest’ is ambitious, elegant, and an absolute bugger to describe.”

Q Magazine: “It’s a beautiful piece of work.”

    Guardian.co.uk: “This is almost perfect.”
